Dec 20 – Local Man Given Suspended Sentence For Possession Of Cocaine

A local man was given a six month prison sentence suspended for a year for the possession of cocaine and a £150 fine for assault at the Supreme Court today.

John Charles Gaivizo Sr was arrested after slapping a fellow punter at a local club in October last year, and a search warrant was carried out in his home where officers found 12.95g of a mixture containing cocaine.

The drugs were tested and revealed that just 3g of cocaine was in the mixture, which Puisne Judge Karen Ramagge Prescott recognised was of low purity, adding that this indicated the defendant was attempting to “wean himself” off his drug addiction.

Gaivizo’s lawyer, Justin Phillips, said his client is doing everything he reasonably can to overcome this incident.

Gaivizo was fined £150 for the assault, to be payable within three months, and sentenced to six months in prison for possession, suspended for a year.

Johann Fernandez appeared for the Crown.
