Feb 20 – Businessman Cleared Of Fraud

A 37-year-old local businessman who was hired as a bailiff on behalf of the Government has been cleared of two counts of fraud by abuse of position and one count of fraud by false representation.

Daniel Linares, of Horse Barrack Lane, was accused in September last year of retaining money while acting as a bailiff on behalf of the Government on two separate occasions in 2014.

It was also alleged Linares fraudulently issued a cheque worth more than £10,000.

However, at the Supreme Court this morning, the Crown said it offered no evidence and recorded not guilty verdicts.

Linares was represented by Chris Finch and Craig Fortunato.
