May 04 - GWA Repeats Request For Review Of Motor Offences

The Gibraltar Women’s Association requested a complete review of motor offence laws when a motorcycle driver was fined what it described as the “paltry sum” of £250 last September after hitting a pram on a crossing and the baby was violently ejected from the pram following the impact.

Back then, the association stated that "in line with our aim to be a voice for women to protect the interest of our community, we feel that motor offences are becoming more frequent due to lenient sentencing in our courts. In the interest of a safe community we would like the laws to be completely reviewed increasing sentences, introducing points to licenses and removal of licenses for serious offenses and repeat offenders".

In light of a similar recent sentencing of £150 for careless driving when a motorist destroyed a buggy, the GWA now “strongly reiterates” this need adding that it will be petitioning the government and the courts to take this up.
