May 04 - Long Service And Good Conduct Medals And Clasps For RGP Officers

At a medal presentation ceremony held at The Convent on Thursday 27th April, 29 serving and retired officers of the Royal Gibraltar Police were presented with their Overseas Territories Long Service and Good Conduct Medals and Clasps by HE the Governor Lieutenant General Edward Davis and the Chief Minister Fabian Picardo.

The Long Service medal is awarded after 18 years of service, the 1st Clasp is awarded after 25 years service and the 2nd Clasp after 30 years service.

The OT Long Service and Good Conduct Medal was presented to: Chief Inspector Brian Finlayson. Inspectors Paul Chipolina, Sean Perera, Albert Fernandez and Patrick Payas. Police Constables Jansen Olivero, Richard Gonzalez and Richard Hammond

The 1st Clasp was presented to:
Commissioner of Police Edward Yome CPM. Police Sergeants Jonathan Lutkin, Daniel Berllaque, Kevin Fortuna and Albert Rocca. Police Constables Brian Shoesmith (Retd), Joseph Victory, Herbert Warwick, Mark Hermida, Richard Hammond, William Danino, William Pulham OTM (Retd), Paul Davis, Glen Ballentine OTM, Manuel Bacarese OTM (Retd), Nigel Edwards and Andrew Watson OTM.

The 2nd Clasp was presented to:
Commissioner of Police Eddie Yome CPM. Superintendent Ian McGrail. Chief Inspector Paul Richardson. Inspector William Gomez (Retd). Police Sergeant Adam Bautista. Police Constables Derek Tilbury and Michael Roca (Retd).

At the conclusion of the presentations, the Governor reflected on why the presentation of medals and clasps matters. More than just a measure of the officers’ years in the force, he said that medals and clasps are a recognition of the years of dedicated and relentless commitment and service to the community.

He thanked the officers for their contributions in protecting and safeguarding the community and highlighted the risks they face in the line of duty. He also thanked the officers’ families for the unstinting support they provided their loved ones over many years, support without which the officers’ task would be that much more difficult.

Following the ceremony the recipients and their guests were hosted to a small reception by the Governor who took the opportunity to speak to the officers and their families individually.
