May 23 – Police Recruits Receive Warrant Cards Ahead Of Tomorrow’s Parade

Twenty-eight police recruits, 17 officers from the RGP and 11 from the GDP, have been issued with their Police Warrant Cards today at New Mole House.

The warrant cards were presented to them by their respective Commanding Officers: the Commissioner of Police Eddie Yome CPM for the RGP and Chief Superintendent Rob Allen for the GDP.

Receiving their warrant cards marks a major milestone in their careers - not only does the warrant card identify the officers as Police Constables, it symbolises the powers afforded to them by law as Police Constables and, more importantly, the duties and responsibilities they now assume in serving the community as Police Constables.

The recruits, who are in the last week of their 21 week long police training course, have all successfully completed their final assessments and examinations. They will all be passing out together in a parade to be held at Casemates Square tomorrow afternoon, before joining their respective organisations where they will continue with their professional development as operational officers.

The parade will march off from the Piazza at 18:40 tomorrow led by the band of the Royal Gibraltar Regiment and will march down Main Street towards Casemates Square where they will await the arrival of the Chief Minister, Fabian Picardo, and the Governor Lieutenant General Edward Davis.

The parade will be inspected by the Governor after which the recruits will receive their course certificates from the Gibraltar Police Authority’s Chairman Mr John Gonçalves.

A number of awards in recognition for achievements during their training period will also be presented.

Mr James Levy QC will present the Momy Levy award to the officers who has most improved their physical fitness.

The Commander of British Forces, Commodore Mike Walliker, will present the Best Academic and Best Overall recruit awards to the GDP officers.

The Minster for Justice, Neil Costa, will present the Best Academic and Best Overall recruit awards to the RGP officers.

Following the parade a small reception will be hosted for the recruits and their families to round up what is no doubt a proud day for both the officers and their loved ones.
