Aug 01 - Local Man On Trial For Affray

The jury heard from the complainant on the second day of a Supreme Court trial of a local man accused of causing an affray and being in possession of a kitchen knife.

It is alleged that Aaron Santos, of Laguna Estate, turned up at the complainant’s house in December 2015 because his friend wanted to speak to him.

It was when he refused to come out to speak to them that Santos, who was allegedly holding a screwdriver in one hand, reportedly pulled out a kitchen knife and started shouting, together with his friend and co-defendant, John Henry Lopez.

Santos was arrested and charged with causing an affray and possession of a knife. He maintains his innocence in relation to both charges.

When cross-examined, the complainant told Santos’ lawyer Simon Diable that he’s never had a problem with his client in the past, but it was Lopez with whom he had an issue.

Tomorrow, the jury will hear closing statements from Prosecutor Johann Fernandez and Mr Diable and Puisne Judge Karen Ramagge Prescott, before delivering its verdict.
