Dec 11 - Local Woman To Spend Two Years And Eight Months In Prison For Theft And False Accounting

A fifty three year old local woman, Hortencia Chipolina, was yesterday imprisoned for 2 years and 8 months after having previously pleaded guilty to charges of Theft and False Accounting.

Chipolina was arrested on the 9th of May this year and subsequently charged with four counts of Theft and one of False Accounting after it was alleged that she had stolen £690,385 whilst working for Gibtelecom. The stolen funds were fraudulently withdrawn from her employer’s company accounts and paid into two Post Office thrift accounts to cover unauthorised withdrawals from the two thrift accounts.

Chipolina was sentenced today in the Supreme Court by Justice Black who imposed a six year sentence of imprisonment, reduced following an early guilty plea and for having undertaken to repay £92,000 of the stolen monies. In total Chipolina will serve 2 years and 8 months of imprisonment.
