Mar 03 - GSD Calls on Government to Investigate ‘Serious’ Bullying Claims

gsdThe GSD Opposition has called on the Government to institute an independent investigation into the complaint by 35 trainees of alleged bullying by Joanna Hernandez, made last week.

The party claims that the Government chose to employ Ms Hernandez as a Senior manager within the public service, ostensibly because, they argued, she should have been reinstated by the GSD Government. During this time she has also played a leading role in the Dr Giraldi Enquiry.

Leader of the GSD Daniel Feetham commented that the reports of bullying are of a very serious nature. He added, ‘bearing in mind that Ms Hernandez is reportedly still working closely with the Minister of Employment within his Department, nothing short of an independent investigation will suffice. At the moment we are concerned by how the matter has reportedly been dealt with.

‘Considering the seriousness of the allegations being made by the trainees for whom she was responsible, and the number of complainants cited, the Opposition questions the Government’s wisdom of simply moving this individual to another section of the department, not only for the sake of those working in that department and for the fairness of the investigation process, but also for the sake of Ms Hernandez herself. We call on the Government to make a full statement on this matter.’
