Mar 27 - Betting Company Employee Who Stole Over £72K Gets Sent To Jail

A man who used his position within locally based gaming company William Hill to steal over £72,000 was sent to jail this morning for 16 months.

Locally resident British man Kevin Ball, 32, was arrested in January this year after an investigation led by the Royal Gibraltar Police’s Serious Crime Unit. He was subsequently charged with three counts of theft.

Although his lawyer, Jeevan Daswani, stressed that his client was repentant, Puisne Judge Barrington Black said that Ball had pursued a “calculated and devious plan” which could have placed innocent people under suspicion.

Judge Barrington Black said that the defendant had used the money to fund a lavish lifestyle, cover his wedding expenses and help a friend who was studying. He noted that Ball had since returned around £6,000 and also took into account his promise to reimburse a further £7,000 once his assets were unfrozen by the authorities. The Judge also gave him credit for his full co-operation and early guilty plea.

Prosecutor Carl Ramagge appeared for the Crown.
