Apr 02 - No More Tobacco Trade In Glacis And Laguna - Chief Minister Inspects Progress

cm laguna estate The Chief Minister took a tour of Laguna and Glacis estates yesterday evening in order to see for himself the effects of a new law which prohibits over the counter sales of tobacco in shops located in these residential areas. The new law is intended to bring an end to the anti-social behaviour associated with the tobacco trade which had plagued these estates in recent times.

Tobacco will now only be available for purchase via vending machines. Mr Picardo was accompanied by senior officers of the RGP and Customs and representatives from tenants' associations.

Facelift

Mr Picardo was also able to inspect the almost completed exterior renovations to Rodney House at the entrance to Laguna Estate - the first of many blocks in both estates to benefit from the Government's manifesto commitment to refurbish what it calls Gibraltar's "forgotten estates."
