Apr 08 - Firefighter To Face Retrial

The firefighter accused of stabbing a colleague during a work Christmas party will face a retrial. A date for the retrial is still to be decided.

Eligio Porter, a line manager at the City Fire Brigade, was tried last week at the Supreme Court where he faced two charges relating to an incident in which he is alleged to have stabbed another firefighter in the thigh with a serrated steak knife in Ipanema restaurant in Ocean Village, on November 30th 2012.

Although Porter was found not guilty in relation to the more serious charge of wounding with intent, the jury was unable to reach a majority decision on the charge of wounding.

Porter continues to deny the charge and is represented by Chris Miles.
