Apr 14 - 1,000 Cartons Of Cigarettes Seized
HM Customs have seized 200,000 cigarettes (1,000 cartons or twenty master cases) in four separate incidents.
Seizures took place in the areas of Mons Calpe Road, Devil’s Tower Road, Eastern Beach and Laguna Estate. The latter two areas have been declared by HM Government of Gibraltar as Special Zones under the provisions of the Tobacco Act.
Two local men, three Spanish nationals and a juvenile have been arrested in connection with the Tobacco Act seizures which also included the seizure of two locally registered vehicles.
Officers of HM Customs executed a search warrant on lock-up premises in the vicinity of Devil’s Tower Road where a seizure of 80,000 cigarettes was made on Thursday morning. An unrelated search of a private dwelling in Laguna Estate on Friday resulted in four arrests and the seizure of 70,000 cigarettes. Investigation into both matters continues.
HM Customs also arrested two Spanish nationals and seized a Spanish registered vehicle at British Lines Road. The men were arrested by Customs for offences against the Imports and Exports Act.
