May 09 - Gibraltar Represented at European Association of Airport and Seaport Police Conference
The annual conference of the European Association of Airport and Seaport Police (EAASP) was held in Dubrovnik Croatia between 28th -30th April 2014.
The conference was opened by the EAASP President, RGP Commissioner Eddie Yome, and heard from presentations on current themes by speakers from a cross section of the air and maritime law enforcement and security industry.
There was input from:
. (i) Europol with an overview of Terrorism in Europe
. (ii) Interpol presenting on maritime piracy and armed robbery at sea
. (iii) The International Organisation for Migration on trafficking of human beings, and
. (iv) The Centre for Protection of National Infrastructure in the UK - raising awareness on how easy it is to remain on ‘the back foot’ when dealing with the threat of terrorism.
There were further presentations from Scotland Yard officials covering terrorist incidents on aircrafts and in the maritime domain as indeed examples of preventative strategies and initiatives to enhance operational safety and integrity which was delivered by the Dutch authorities.
In addition to Mr Yome’s involvement as president of the EAASP, Gibraltar sent delegates from HM Customs, Borders & Coastguard Agency, Port Authority and Royal Gibraltar Police to the conference.
Mr Yome commented, ‘It has been a very successful conference, the stream of speakers have been of the highest calibre and the subjects discussed very pertinent. The forum allows for the sharing of knowledge, experiences and expertise to take place in the Association’s quest to contribute towards a safer Europe and by default a safer world.’
