May 09 - Locals Fined on Tobacco Charges
Two local men appeared at the Magistrates Court yesterday morning on charges of, ‘Possession of a commercial quantity of tobacco’ (40,400 cigarettes) and ‘Being knowingly concerned in the attempted exportation of a commercial quantity
of tobacco’.
John Prescott, aged 35 of Laguna Estate and Francis Ferro, ages 38 of Waterport Terraces pleaded guilty to both charges.
They were each fined £1,200 and the tobacco forfeited.
The vessel they were travelling in will now be subject to a forfeiture hearing which will be heard in due course.
