Jun 17 - RGP Officers Commended for Bravery Following Ocean Village Fire
RGP officers PC 74 Donovan Galia and PC 165 Keiron Reyes were today commended by the Commissioner of Police for bravery and determination under hazardous circumstances over their actions during a fire at Ocean Village in the early hours of the 23rd April 2014.
The Officers had been on duty that night when they were dispatched to a call of a fire at Royal Ocean Plaza.
On arrival there they were met by the apartment occupier, in a very disorientated state, outside a smoke filled apartment.
Fearing for the safety of anyone who may have still been in the apartment both officers rushed in to search for anyone who might need help in getting out.
The fire had been caused by an electrical fault resulting in the apartment being filled with smoke and visibility being down to no more than three feet.
Although no one in the apartment was severely hurt, the occupier and both officers needed treatment at St Bernard’s Hospital for smoke inhalation.
