Jun 25 - Fast Launch Chase Ends in Arrest
The RGP, along with the cooperation of the Guardia Civil, yesterday intercepted an illegal RHIB in British Gibraltar Territorial Waters half a mile off eastern Beach in the early hours of the morning.
A chase ensued between the RGP and the 9 metre vessel, powered by twin 150 horsepower outboard engines. The RHIB, crewed by two Spanish national and showing no lights, was intercepted by the RGP one mile off Catalan Bay.
Spanish national Jose Antonio Florido Gutierrez, aged 49, was subsequently arrested and charged with, importing a prohibited import, operating a fast launch, obstructing police and possession of 15.2 grams of Cannabis Resin.
Jose Antonio Alvarez Garcia, aged 42, of La Linea was charged with importing a prohibited import. Both men pleaded guilty and were fined £3,000 and £2,000.
The RHIB and engines were confiscated.
