Jul 09 - Borders & Coastguard Agency and Royal Gibraltar Police to work closer together

Gibraltar Police - RGPAndrew Bonfante, CEO of the Borders and Coastguard Agency (BCA) and Eddie Yome, Commissioner of the Royal Gibraltar Police, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the two organisations, in a move expected to formalise their co-operation.

The outline of the MoU is to help both organisations with:

  • information sharing
  • Joint working to counter terrorist threat
  • Enabling BCA to support RGP in enforcing the Immigration, Asylum and Refugee Act
  • Allow BCA access to Interpol’s ‘I 24/7’ database on wanted persons, stolen vehicle and stolen and lost travel documents
  • Working together to ameliorate traffic flow into and out of Gibraltar.

The statement says” There has always been an excellent relationship between both organisations and the MoU will help formalise the existing working relationship and lay down the necessary framework for that co-operation.”

This MoU makes up part of the objectives set by the Gibraltar Police Authority in it’s policing plan: “continue to establish effective links with partner agencies and others, putting in place MoUs where appropriate”.
