Jul 22 - RGP Investigates Offensive Comments on Social Media
The Royal Gibraltar Police is investigating a small number of cases where social media has been used to make comments or post things that may be considered offensive or leading to racial or religious hatred.
An RGP statement on the matter insisted that ‘these appear to follow current world events where varying opinions and viewpoints are common.’
An RGP spokesperson went on to say that Gibraltar ‘has always been a multi-cultural, multi-faith community where people have always respected their differences, be these of beliefs or opinions. This has served to allow our community to grow into what it is today, a culturally rich and diverse one where people from different faiths, nationalities and backgrounds live together in harmony and mutual respect.
‘We would like the community to be aware that where lines are crossed and comments and/or posts become abusive, insulting, threatening or racist in content we will be taking strict enforcement action against offenders.
‘Likewise we would urge persons who feel strongly about any posts they view as offensive, threatening, insulting or racist to contact us on + 350 200 72500.’
