Oct 27 - £3,000 Worth Of Cannabis In Varyl Begg Patio – Local Man On Trial

The trial of a local man accused of storing over £3,000 worth of cannabis resin in his patio started this morning in the Supreme Court. James Yusifredo is charged with possession of the drug and possession with intent to supply. He denies both charges.

The drugs were discovered in February 2013 when the Royal Gibraltar Police executed a search warrant at Yusifredo’s home in Warspite House, Varyl Begg Estate. On entering his ground floor flat, Yusifredo handed over to the police a 30g piece of cannabis.

An extensive search of the property resulted in the seizure of numerous 30g pellets of cannabis wrapped in cellophane which were in a bag hidden in a cupboard in Yusifredo’s exterior patio. The total amount of drugs seized was 628.3g. A set of digital scales was also found at the property.

Puisne Judge Adrian Jack is presiding over the trial and Johann Fernandez is appearing for the Crown.

Christopher Pitto, assisted by Grace Lima, appears for the defendant.

Editor's note: Mr Yusifredo was cleared of these charges on 28-10-2014
