Jan 19 - Security Level To Remain High Following Review
The Security Coordination Group which comprises the Governor, Chief Minister, Commander of British Forces and Commissioner of Police, has decided to maintain an “enhanced level” of security on the Rock. The decision comes after a meeting this morning at the Convent during which the group reviewed the factors that had led to the increase in the security threat level at the end of last week.
This means that there will continue to be a more visible level of policing at the points of entry to Gibraltar and in public places.
The Convent says that the situation will remain under continual review adding that this remains a “precautionary measure” based on the general level of threat in Europe and is not based on a specific enhanced threat to Gibraltar. Nevertheless, says the Convent, everybody is urged to remain vigilant and report anything suspicious or unusual to the authorities.
