rgpThis morning at approximately 8:45 am a suspect RHIB, seven and a half metres in length and powered by a single 200hp Suzuki engine, was spotted by the RGP speeding southwards towards Europa Point, about one mile off Eastern Beach.

Following multiple manoeuvres in an attempt to evade arrest, the suspect vessel, with three male occupants on board, continuously ignored Police instructions to stop and at one stage collided into the stern of the Guardia Civil’s Rio Cedena.

The chase continued north into the Bay of Gibraltar and still within BGTW. At one point the suspect vessel turned sharply and proceeded in through the southern entrance to the Gibraltar harbour. The vessel was finally cornered within the area of the Extension Jetty where it was brought to a halt, two of the occupants of the RHIB then jumped into the sea and attempted to swim towards the Harbour Views Promenade where they were met and arrested by RGP officers.

During this time the Rio Cedena remained outside the northern entrance to the Harbour.

All three men, two Spanish nationals and one Moroccan national, are currently detained at Police HQ whilst investigations continue. The suspect RHIB was also seized by the RGP. The three men have been arrested on suspicion of four offences including; Dangerous navigation, Importing a Prohibited Import, Obstructing Police and Resisting Police.

No drugs were seized during the operation.
