Mar 13 - Notre Dame School Burglary Charges – 16 Year Old Also Charged For North Front Cemetery Graffiti Incident
Following a report of a burglary at Notre Dame School in the early hours of the 11th of March 2015, shortly after 0630hrs that same day, officers of an Area Response team arrested two local juvenile males aged 14 years old and 16 years old respectively.
As a result of the arrest and following extensive inquiries (which had been ongoing for the past weeks) by officers of the Crime and Protective Services Division the two juveniles were charged as follows:
- The 14 year old was charged with two counts of burglary, one being Notre Dame School and the other a burglary earlier on in the year.
- The 16 year old was charged with six counts of burglary, one being Notre Dame School and the others having taken place earlier on this year. He was also charged with one count of theft, of a motor vehicle, which has since been recovered. A further seven burglaries will be taken into consideration. Also taken into consideration will be a charge of causing damage which relates to the spraying of graffiti at North Front Cemetery earlier this year.
In addition a 17 year old juvenile male was recalled from police bail and also charged with one count of burglary.
The burglary charges, including the Notre Dame School burglary of the 11th of March 2015, relate to burglaries in the North District: at the Victoria Stadium Sports Complex, North Front Cemetery and a Take Away in Glacis Estate. All these burglaries took place earlier this year.
The 14 year old male and the 17 year old were later bailed to appear at the Magistrates’ Court. The 16 year old male was kept in police cells until his appearance at the Magistrates’ Court.
Following their appearance in Court both the 16 year old male and the 17 year old have pleaded guilty to all charges both will be sentenced once the relevant reports are prepared. In the interim the 16 year old has been remanded in custody whilst the 17 year old has been released on Court bail. The 14 year old was released on Court bail.
