Apr 02 - 30 Kilos Of Cannabis Seized After Fishing Boat Is Intercepted Off Europa Point

The RGP can confirm that at 1245hrs yesterday 1st April 2015, officers of the RGP Marine Section deployed to an area approximately one mile south of Europa Point where they proceeded to intercept a small wooden fishing boat with two occupants.

Upon being challenged by Police the two men proceeded to jettison their cargo, namely four bales of suspected Cannabis Resin. One of these bales, weighing approximately 30kg, was recovered by the officers who then proceeded to arrest the two men, who were then brought to New Mole House Police HQ to be processed.

The men, namely Roberto Alejandro CHEESEMAN GARCIA DOB. 8/10/1989 and Giovanni ARANDA IGLESIAS DOB. 15/09/1989, both Spanish Nationals, were later interviewed and subsequently charged with the following offences:

1. Unlawful Possession of approximately 30Kg of Cannabis Resin

2. Unlawful Importation of the said drug

3. Jettisoning Cargo

The street value of the said drugs is estimated at approximately £150,000.

Both men are due to appear before The Magistrates’ Court of Gibraltar this morning.
