Jun 10 - Speeding And Seatbelt Offences Top ‘Operation RoadWatch’ List

Over 130 drivers were reported for speeding offences last month as part of the RGP’s ‘Operation RoadWatch’ campaign. Some 60 drivers were also reported during the same period for not wearing a seatbelt.

‘Operation RoadWatch’ is a dedicated Roads Policing Operation which deals exclusively with the promotion of safety on Gibraltar’s roads. The Royal Gibraltar Police says it is committed to making the community safer and an important and critical aspect of achieving this safe, feel-good environment is to promote the safety of Gibraltar’s roads for road users to enjoy.

In trying to achieve its aims, officers involved in ‘Operation RoadWatch’ proactively target illegal or irresponsible driving, persistent offenders who speed or engage in dangerous and careless driving and persons who insist on driving whilst under the influence of drink or drugs.

The RGP says that the education of drivers and making them aware of the inherent dangers of ignoring the rules of the road as well as the correct use of the safety equipment fitted to the modern car, are just some of the strands which make up ‘Operation RoadWatch’.
