Jun 29 - Crime Awareness Week 2015

The summer months traditionally see an increase in particular types of crime such as Residential Burglary and Theft (eg pick-pocketing, theft of bicycles, vehicle contents and personal property at beaches/pools). This phenomenon is not exclusive to Gibraltar.

As part of the RGP’s commitment to reduce crime and increase public awareness on both personal and property security through the ‘Operation GibWatch’ strategy, the Crime Prevention & Reduction Unit will be conducting their annual Summer Crime Awareness Campaign.

This year’s campaign will involve the publishing of daily advice on certain crime types with tips on how best to reduce the possibility of being a victim of such. This advice is based on analysis of past trends and present intelligence indicators. The RGP says it would like the general public to work in partnership with the force during the forthcoming holiday season, and consider the practical advice that it will be focusing on during the week.

Other measures linked to the Crime Awareness week will include a bicycle marking scheme (details of which will be announced shortly) and the publication of a practical guide on some of the most common forms of cyber- crime and financial scams.
