The Growing Artists Programme Launches Gibraltar’s First Public Sculpture Trail: Jump Around Gib

The streets of Gibraltar have been transformed with the launch of Jump Around Gib, a brand-new public sculpture trail celebrating creativity, community and local culture.

The project, led by The Growing Artists Programme; Amy Shepherd and Phoebe Noble have brought together local artists, community groups, sponsors and volunteers to create ten uniquely designed Barbary macaque sculptures, each telling its own story through art.

More than a year in the making, the trail aims to encourage people to see Gibraltar from a different perspective. By following the sculptures across the Rock, residents and visitors are invited to explore familiar places, discover new locations and engage with public art in an accessible and interactive way.

Each of the ten Barbary macaque sculptures has been individually designed around a different theme inspired by Gibraltar. From beaches, marine life to National Day, wellbeing, diversity, nature and local heritage, every sculpture reflects a unique part of Gibraltar’s identity. Each one is also named after a real Barbary macaque living on the Rock, creating a meaningful connection between the trail and Gibraltar’s most iconic residents.

A statement continued: “The project also highlights the importance of collaboration. Community organisations worked alongside local artists throughout the creative process, providing opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to contribute to a lasting public art installation.

“Visitors can collect an official trail map from The Growing Artists Hub, 120a Irish Town, with a suggested £2 donation to help support the project. Once participants have completed the trail and ticked off every sculpture, they can return their map to be entered into a prize draw to win a miniature sculpture.

“The sculptures will remain on display for approximately one year before being auctioned at a farewell event, with proceeds helping to support the ongoing work of The Growing Artists Programme and future community art initiatives.
