Date Palm To Be Removed From Cathedral Square Playground
By YGTV Newsroom13 hours ago

A tall Date Palm at Cathedral Square Children’s Playground is to be felled after an inspection found a cavity that has made the tree unsafe. The playground has been closed.
The tree is believed to be over 100 years old and will be replaced with a mature Date Palm of the same species.
A statement from the Government follows below:
Routine inspection of a tall Date Palm at the Cathedral Square Children’s Playground has revealed a cavity that has rendered the tree unsafe.
The playground has been closed and the tree will sadly be felled.
It is a well-grown specimen likely well over 100 years old, and one of the tallest in Gibraltar, but safety of course comes first. It will be replaced with a well-grown specimen of the same species.
