Feb 29 – Julian Felice Launches ‘Three Gibraltar Plays’ This Week

Gibraltarian playwright Julian Felice will be launching a collection of his plays at Bayside Drama Studio on Wednesday 2nd March at 19:00. Entitled Three Gibraltar Plays, the book brings together the plays that he has written about Gibraltar, each of them exploring different issues about the writer’s homeland.

The first play in the collection – Too Much Make Up – was entered in the 2012 Gibraltar Drama Festival and looks at relationships between the MoD community in Gibraltar and the local population. Flavius – Best Play and Best Original Play at the 2013 Gibraltar Drama Festival – is a provocative look at the 1988 IRA shooting, while Utrecht – the final play in the collection – examines the circumstances that led to the signing of the Treaty of Utrecht and how this impacted on lives on both sides of the frontier. All three plays were first performed at Bayside Drama Studio by members of Bayside & Westside Drama Group, achieving considerable success both locally and in the United Kingdom.

While this is the first collection of Julian’s plays to be published, it follows the publication of Mary Jane of Whitechapel by US-based publishers Eldridge Plays in 2013. The play, which tells the story of Jack the Ripper’s final victim, has since been performed at a number of locations across the United States.

Copies of the book will be available on sale from the book launch priced at £10. They can also be obtained by contacting the Julian Felice – Playwright page on Facebook.
