May 13 - Gibraltar Classic Vehicle Association Bumper Rally On 21st May

Gibraltar on the 21st May will see the biggest ever display of historical and unusual vehicles. The GCVA will display at Casemates during most of the day except from 13:30 to 15:00 when they will tour the Rock and then return to Casemates.

Whilst many people will have already marked in their diaries the 21st May as the day on which to enjoy classic cars, few may realise that the 2016 rally is special.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the foundation of FIVA the International Federation of Classic Vehicles and 2016 marks World Heritage Motoring Year. Gibraltar has now been a full member of FIVA for two years.  For this reason the GCVA has joined forces with the Maroc-Atlas 4X4 Club and the Gibraltar Amateur Racing Club to celebrate World Heritage Motoring Year in style. UNESCO the UN cultural agency is a patron of the World Heritage Motoring Year.

In many senses the Gibraltar International Rally has already started. Larry Riches set off from Gibraltar Point in the UK in his 1926 Ford Model T on the 7th May. The old girl has been on the road for a few days now. You can follow her progress on Facebook at the Gibraltar Classic Vehicle Association events and photos group. It has not all been smooth sailing with Larry having to coax his machine with persuasive mechanic’s hands. Remember that is impossible for Larry to find any mechanic who has ever work on a Ford Model T although the local association says it is sure he will be getting lots of advice!

Larry plans to arrive in Gibraltar on or before the 21st May so come on down and meet one of those Magnificent Men and his Driving Machine.
