May 24 - Government And Mancomunidad De Municipios Meet To Plan Historical Lectures

The Instituto de Estudios Campo-Gibraltareños in conjunction with the Ministry of Culture, will be organising a conference on the history of Gibraltar and the Campo de Gibraltar this autumn, to be held at the John Mackintosh Hall.

On the 12th May, the Delegada del Area de Cultura of the Mancomunidad de Municipios and of the Instituto de Estudios Campogibraltareños , Mrs Marina Garcia Peinado together with the Vice Director and the Secretario – Coordinador of the Organismo Autonomo , were in Gibraltar to make a first contact with the Ministry with the aim of planning the XIII series of lectures relating to the history of the region.

The Delegation from the Mancomunidad de Municipios were received by Ministers John Cortes, who has worked with the organisation in the past, and Steven Linares, and by the Director of the John Mackintosh Hall, Mrs Angela Bula, together with technical staff members. The Conference will be taking place at the John Mackintosh Hall on the 28th, 29th and 30th of October 2016.

The Government of Gibraltar says it is pleased to support and host these lectures in Gibraltar as it has been over ten years since the Mancomunidad de Municipios organised this event in Gibraltar.

The organisational team is working towards having an important input from Gibraltarian authors, as well as authors from Spain who have an interest in Gibraltarian history.

At this meeting, among others things, the schedule for times, dates, protocols, organisation of cultural visits etc., were discussed.

The Opening Address for this series of lectures will be made by Tito Benady, who has recently been honoured with the title of Consejero de Honor of the Institute. He is a historian and has collaborated with the Institute from its inception, specialising in Gibraltarian history.

The Closing Address will be delivered by D. Luis Alberto del Castillo, who is also Consejero de Honor and Principal Director of the Organismo Autonomo and Cronista Oficial in Algeciras.
