Jul 13 - Governor’s Meadow Students Visit Art Exhibition At Gustavo Bacarisa Gallery

Governor’s Meadow First School was invited to visit the Lines and Colours Art Exhibition at the Gustavo Bacarisa Gallery in Casemates.

This major art exhibition is being organised by the Gibraltar Cultural Services, on behalf of the Ministry of Culture. It showcases the works of Royal Academicians Anne Desmet, Barbara Rae and Ann Christopher in order to promote, encourage and foster the arts and cultural activities in Gibraltar and to export local culture abroad.

Each class from Year Three right down to Reception was able to visit the exhibition. The visits were supported by Kimberly Pecino who guided the children through the chambers of the gallery and explained features of the paintings, sculptures and engravings that were on display. The children were very interested in all the art work, which generated a lot of discussion and consequently, on their return to school, the children all engaged in art activities based on some of the techniques that had inspired them during the visit.

The children particularly enjoyed the lino printing and engravings of Anne Desmet and this was the biggest source of inspiration for their own work.

Governor’s Meadow staff and pupils have thanked Seamus Byrne for special arrangements that he put in place to make the visits possible, and Mrs Pecino for guiding the pupils around the exhibition and helping them understand and appreciate the art on display.
