Gibraltar Cultural Services, on behalf of the Ministry of Culture, has announced some of the details for this year’s National Celebrations.

Beer Festival

The 2016 Beer Festival will be held on Friday 19th August at the Bayside Sports Complex between 7pm and 12 midnight. Tickets are currently on sale at Lewis Stagnetto Ltd at 41 Main Street.

The event will feature entertainment provided by My Sick Pocket, Dead City Radio, German Oompah Band and DJ’s.

Art Exhibition Competition

This year’s Art Exhibition Competition is being organised by the Fine Arts Association, and the competition is open to all Fine Arts Association members. Artists may submit a maximum of five artworks, under the theme ‘Our Identity’. An entrance fee of £10 per artist is applicable. 
Prizes to be awarded are:

  • 1st Prize £500 

  • 2nd Prize £300 

  • 3rd Prize £200 


Entries can be submitted from 24th to 31st August at the Fine Arts Gallery in Casemates during its opening hours: 10am - 2pm and 3pm - 6pm.

Classical Concert

This year’s Classical Concert will be held at 8pm on Tuesday 6th September 2016 at St Michael’s Cave.
The Concert will be performed by: 


- Alisa Weilerstein - Cello

- Rafael Payare - Conductor 


- The European Symphony Orchestra

The programme includes: 


  1. van Beethoven: Symphony No 3, Op 55 “Eroica” 

  2. Elgar: Cello Concerto Op 85 (Alisa Weilerstein, cello)

A spokesperson for the Gibraltar Philharmonic Society commented: ‘We feel very privileged that Alisa Weilerstein, without doubt one of, if not the most, sought-after cellist in the world and her partner, conductor Rafael Payare, together with the European Symphony Orchestra will open the 2016/2017 Philharmonic Society’s season with such a magnificent programme. As always, we are committed to bringing world class artists to Gibraltar and making classical music accessible to everyone.’ 


Tickets priced at £20 will go on sale as from Monday 25th July and will be available from Sacarello’s Coffee Shop in Irish Town, the Silver Shop at 222 Main Street or online at www.buytickets.gi.

A limited number of tickets priced at £10 for Senior Citizens and Students will be available from the John Mackintosh Hall reception at 308 Main Street. The ticket price includes a return shuttle service from the Public Market and from Grand Parade (opposite the Cable Car) as from 6.30pm.
