Nov 10 – Magic Comes To Gibraltar – YGTV Looks Ahead To Next Month’s Festival

Next month, Gibraltar will host its first Magic Festival. We caught up with organizer Jordan Lopez of Gib Media to find out more about the event…

YGTV: Tell us what this is all about.

Jordan: A Magic Festival for Gibraltar has been a dream of mine since I was a child – and now it’s a reality! We are so excited because really the journey to get to this Magic Festival started 10 years ago when I visited an illusion show. It re-kindled the passion for magic and circus that I had and I’m now happy to be developing it further with this event where audiences will “witness the impossible”.

YGTV: Why this festival?

Jordan: We really are a lucky community to have so much variety ranging from Jazz and Dance to Music and the Literary Festival.  We want to complement what’s on offer and bring in something alternative that the entire family can enjoy.

YGTV: What shows do we have lined up?

Jordan: As organisers we cannot stress enough the quality of the artists that this first edition has attracted! Award winning magicians highly regarded across the world and very sought after in the Magic and Entertainment world.  Our ‘Grand Gala’ will feature seven guest magicians in a show that showcases the best in magic with cutting edge illusions and a combination of acts never before seen on the local stage and some returning friends to further impress us again!  There will be seven performances in total and there will also be a variety of other events including a ‘Close-Up Room’.  This is a new concept for us.  Here again the audience will be able to witness the amazing Dan Da Ortiz, considered the world’s Number 1 in close up magic.  It’s a very different show to what we are used to but it’s going to leave you speechless!

YGTV: Tell us more about the workshops and street magic…

Jordan: Gibraltar is great at promoting and developing singers and dancers.  We now want to take that a step further by introducing workshops for various age groups.  We are hoping these will give young people a chance to learn magic tricks and maybe further their interests.  There really is plenty with which to get involved.  If the workshop is not for you – don’t worry.  How about enjoying some Street Magic? We are sure people will just come across our street magicians who will add colour to Main Street.  These sessions will be free as we plan to fill our bars and restaurants with magic.

YGTV: What sort of support is there for this festival?

Jordan: Early tickets sales show a great response already. We are really grateful that the Government have decided to support this venture and are confident the community will too.  Every year our December shows attract a huge crowd and we have just developed that event massively.  Take a leap into the world of magic with us this December.
