Nov 21 - An Evening Of Christmas Music – Harmonics And InCantus

Fans of choral music and anyone wanting to soak in the Christmas spirit will be treated to an evening performance on Wednesday 7th December at the Cathedral of St Mary the Crowned. Local choirs Harmonics and InCantus will present their first ever joint collaboration – YGTV caught up with them to find out more.

YGTV: What will the highlights be of this year's concert?

Harmonics/Incantus: This will be the first joint collaboration between InCantus and Harmonics. It is a concert full of favourite Christmas tunes (Traditional Carols, Villancicos and Christmas Songs) that will have young and old singing along. It will feature a 21st Century double choir arrangement of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen by Ola Gjeilo.

YGTV: What other concerts and performances have the choir been involved in this year?

Harmonics/Incantus: InCantus have just performed a selection of choral music by “Living” composers which was very successful and well received. Further to a very well received performance of Handel’s Messiah in November 2015, earlier in the year, Harmonics featured in a concert in aid of Cancer Research at the Convent Ballroom, performing a selection of music from the 1960s

YGTV: How would you describe the atmosphere at these concerts?

Harmonics/Incantus: From our past Christmas performances we can assure the community of Gibraltar that the concert will be full of fun and the festive spirit. There will also be the opportunity for the audience to brush off their vocal chords and join us in some rousing traditional carols to really get them in the mood.

YGTV: What are your plans for 2017?

Harmonics: Another night of music from favourite eras and a large-scale concert of recently composed choral works.

InCantus: We have a number of things in the pipeline including a concert of music from the movies and possibly another joint event with Harmonics singing music from favourite eras. We would also like, at some point, to present the full set of Tenebrae Responsories by Tomas Luis de Victoria, some of which we presented in the lead up to Easter this year at The Cathedral of St. Mary The Crowned.
