Jul 17 - Bayside And Westside Drama Group Win Duncan Rand Festival

The Bayside and Westside Drama Group have won the Duncan Rand Youth One-Act Play Festival, held at Medway Little Theatre in Rochester (Kent), for the second year running.

The group’s production of The Amazing Angel-Man won the award for Best Play, as well as Best Original Play, while Liam Ballester, who did lighting and sound for the performance, was given the prize for Best Technical Crew.

Mohammed Acharki won Best Supporting Actor for his performance in the group’s second entry London, Madrid, Paris, Brussels And So On….

In addition, the group gained eight further nominations for individual acting awards: Nayan Adamberry for Best Supporting Actor; Liam Ballester, Conor McGibney and Kai Nemes for Best Actor; and Rachel Almeida, Carmen Anderson, Natalie Bonavia and Marta Miranda Porras for Best Actress.

Both entries received very positive feedback from the festival’s adjudicator Arthur Rochester – who adjudicated the Gibraltar Drama Festival in 2014 – while two adjudicators who were observing the festival highly praised the two plays.

This continues the group’s successful record at the Duncan Rand Festival, having won last year with their production of The Trial, and coming second on three previous occasions. It brings their total to twenty-seven awards in five participations. The visit also further strengthened the group’s connections with Medway Little Theatre’s Youth Company, with the nineteen students taking part in a joint workshop with the group.

The group was accompanied by teachers Julian Felice and Dulcie Edwards.
