Jul 10 - Bayside And Westside Drama Group Travel To UK Hoping For A ‘Threepeat’

Bayside and Westside Drama Group will once again be travelling to Rochester (Kent) to take part in the Duncan Rand Youth One-Act Play Festival, held at Medway Little Theatre.

This is the group’s sixth participation at the event, where they will be performing their productions of La Calle Commedia and Layla, both of which were presented at last March’s Gibraltar Drama Festival. The students have won the past two editions of the Duncan Rand Festival and are hoping to make it three successive triumphs, while also adding to their haul of forty-eight awards.

La Calle Commedia is a light-hearted and playful Gibraltarian comedy written in the style of commedia dell’arte and draws attention to local culture and the tensions with Spain. Layla is a very different play, telling a dark and hard-hitting story about a high school shooting. Both plays are originals by the group’s leader Julian Felice. In addition, the group’s members will be taking part in a joint workshop with Medway Little Theatre’s Youth Company, who are regular visitors to Gibraltar’s Drama Festival.

The group of eleven students, who are also accompanied by the group’s co-director Dulcie Edwards, leave Gibraltar on Thursday, perform at the Festival on Friday, and return to the Rock on Sunday.
