Feb 26 - Gibraltar Academy Of Dance Invite Transitions For Workshops And Public Performances

The Gibraltar Academy of Dance, who are this year celebrating their 30th anniversary, have secured Transitions, who will be coming to Gibraltar in March for workshops and a public performance. The event is organised with the support of the Ministry of Culture and will take place between the 23rd to 26th March.

Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance have announced the new Transitions Dance Company members and choreographers for 2014. Trinity Laban was the first to introduce a student dance company as part of its MA offering.

The talented twelve joining the 2014 company from around the world are Clare Walters, Jonathan Caruana, Sarah Fletcher, Gordon Raeburn, Franki Trout, Heli Latola, Hannah Beer, Andrew Race, Parinay Mehra, Martha Canning, Morrighan MacGillivray and Louise Lloyd.

Over the course of the year the company will work alongside acclaimed choreographers performing new works. Stefanie Batten Bland (2014 Joffrey Ballet Choreographer of Color Recipient), Dog Kennel Hill Project (2010 associate artists with Dance4, Aerowaves Spring Forward Festival and the British Council Showcase at the 2011 Edinburgh Festival), and Ikky Maas (National Ballet of Finland, Rambert Dance Company and Dance Collective London) will create surprising, inventive and accessible dance for everyone to enjoy.

Transitions will begin its 2014 national and international tour this month, at Zinc Arts in Essex, finishing in Trinity Laban’s stunning RIBA Stirling prize-winning Laban Building in South East London in June.

Artistic director David Waring said:

"No other graduate company commissions so many new dance works on an annual basis. By commissioning new work from outstanding choreographers and recruiting dancers emerging onto the international dance scene, Transitions continues to lead the way in contemporary dance with this exciting, sophisticated and intelligent repertoire programme."

Founded by artistic director Bonnie Bird, Transitions Dance Company became Britain's foremost professional training company for young dancers. Since 1982 approximately 200 dancers have performed, working with 80 choreographers and touring to more than 130 venues across the world.  David Waring said of its development:

"An innovation as the first Conservatoire dance company, Transitions was originally created to help emerging artists bridge formal training and their entry to the professional world. It now also includes professional dance artists who are redefining and developing their practice. The company has gained an international reputation for the technical excellence of its dancers and the originality of the work it performs.

"The individuality and enthusiasm of the dancers and the artistry of these renowned choreographers gives the audience a wonderful glimpse of the future stars of contemporary dance.''

Alongside the tour company members are supported throughout the process by Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance as they complete the MA Dance Performance programme.

Notable Transitions alumni include Brooke Smiley, Michael Clark Company (graduated 2007), Leila McMillan (graduated 2005), Tom Dale (graduated 1999), Luca Silvestrini (graduated 1997) and Matthew Bourne (graduated 1986).
