Mar 24 - Local Artists Qualify In First Round Of Pre-Selection For Royal Academy Summer Exhibition

Following recent meetings with the Royal Academy of Art, the Ministry of Culture is developing various projects that would see the Ministry and the Royal Academy working together to extend strategic support for the Fine Arts in Gibraltar. The aims of this collaboration are to widen the scope for artistic and cultural activities and to export Gibraltar’s culture to other countries.

As a result of this work, the Ministry has issued an invitation to all Gibraltarian artists who wished to take part in the prestigious Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. The Royal Academy expected around 12,000 entries, of which only 4,000 would qualify for the second. At that stage any local artist who qualified would have to send the original artwork to UK. The Ministry has committed to supporting these artists by helping with the cost of transporting the artworks to UK.

The Ministry is delighted to announce that the artworks submitted by local artists Shane Dalmedo and Alan Perez have qualified in this pre-selection. Shane’s and Alan’s works will now be sent to the Royal Academy where they will proceed to the next qualifying round.

The photographs show the artworks in question. Shane’s piece was exhibited locally at her recent solo exhibition which took place at the Fine Arts Gallery.
