Jul 10 - Cavilla Art Gallery Opens In The Heart Of Town
A new art gallery displaying a fresh and vibrant collection of works by local artists and rare antiquities opened last week in Horse Barrack Lane. The Cavilla Art Gallery, run by couple Dylan and Anna Cavilla, promises to offer museum quality works for discerning collectors, art addicts, the adventurous and the curious.
Speaking to Dylan, he says he was interested in offering Gibraltar “something special” in creating a place that brought together anything from 3,000-year-old sculptures to contemporary works.
Dylan says he has been busy examining private collections and visiting auctions. “I try to source things at a good price so I can offer people quality works at a reasonable price.”
Among the works for sale at the gallery are pieces from well-known locals like Tiana Langdon, Christian Hook, Jane Langdon and even Anna Cavilla herself.
“It’s been fantastic working with local artists,” says Dylan.
The artefacts range from contemplative Buddhas from Burma to terracotta figures and attractive Punjabi plates. The current exhibition will continue until the end of the month and Dylan stresses that the displays will continuously evolve throughout the year.
“There are works in marble…in bronze…this is more exclusive but still affordable. There are things for all budgets. There are works here that are very old and have a certain guaranteed provenance and, hopefully, people will become more interested in sculpture,” he explains, adding that he is also interested in advising clients on how to furnish their homes with the works he offers at the gallery.
