Dec 02 - We’ll Be Home For Christmas – An Exploration Of The First World War

A presentation by Group 2000 featuring poetry and photos relating to the First World War will take place on Thursday 4th December at 8pm at the Garrison Library.

Entitled “We’ll Be Home For Christmas” and devised by Cecil Gomez, the works will be read by Anna Cavilla, Araceli Latin, Alfred Reoch and Frank Dellipiani.

Speaking about the event, Cecil said: “In this programme you will not hear of the Great War Poets, as they are called, though they must appear in later presentations. We will not be talking about the intricacies of the battles, too complex and better absorbed via books and also by good TV programmes. So what then are we going to try to do? Well, in the first place, via the letters of those in the different theatres of war, we will try to give you a day-by-day picture of what it was like for those fighting in the front line. The subject is vast and in this first presentation we will present only some aspects of it. We are also going to make an effort to make you aware that it was a World War and fought not just in the trenches of Europe, but over a far more extensive area.”

Tickets are available at Sacarello’s coffee shop and the Garrison (10am-5pm) and are priced at £5. All proceeds will be donated to the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund.
