The Gibraltar Police Federation has strongly condemned the incident that occurred early this morning against one of the RGP’s vessels jointly manned by officers of the Royal Gibraltar Police and the Gibraltar Defence Police. Shots were fired by a suspect RHIB that was being chased by the RGP just two miles off Catalan Bay.
The Queen’s Birthday Parade will take place on Thursday 15 June in Grand Casemates Square at 6:30 pm and celebrates the Official Birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
At about 02:50 this morning an RGP Interceptor vessel, jointly crewed with the GDP, was on patrol in British Gibraltar Territorial Waters (BGTW) and engaged in a high speed pursuit of a suspect rigid hulled inflatable boat (RHIB) in collaboration with local and Spanish Law Enforcement Agencies (LEA’s).
The Gibraltar Tourist Board (GTB) is currently exhibiting at The Meetings Show in London. The show is in its fifth edition and is the premier event for the meetings industry based in the UK. The show takes place from 13th-15th June at the Olympia.
The GSD says it welcomes the statement made by the Chief Minister, Fabian Picardo, to the Committee of 24 that the 2006 referendum on the New Constitution constituted an act of self- determination and in doing so the people of Gibraltar adopted the New Constitution as a method of decolonization. The party says that, by his statement, the Chief Minister “has expressly adopted the GSD's long standing position on this issue.”
The Chief Minister criticized the UN Committee of 24’s refusal to send a visiting mission to Gibraltar during yesterday’s annual address in New York. The Chairman of the Committee said that there would be no visiting mission because the Gibraltar issue was one of sovereignty not decolonization.
The Port Authority is reminding the general public and especially recreational users that there is a speed limit of 5 knots for all vessels in the inner harbour. Any vessel which exceeds this may be liable to prosecution under the Port Act. More generally, particular care should also be taken by speed boat and jet ski users when navigating in the vicinity of other vessels or swimmers in the busy waters off the coastline.
