The Chief Minister, Fabian Picardo, said that “Gibraltar opens its doors to the people of chess” during a visit to the Tradewise Gibraltar International Chess Festival today. Mr Picardo said that the Rock of Gibraltar is the home of chess in January and February every year.
Today marks the 10th anniversary of Data Protection Day. This day is celebrated throughout Europe, on the 28th January every year, to commemorate the importance of Data Protection, which is a fundamental right for everyone in the European Union.

Last week Gibraltar saw the arrival of its new Governor Lieutenant General Edward Davis. Yesterday, a visit to the Gibraltar Tradewise Festival together with his wife Mrs Lorraine Davis. was one of his first official functions. Met by tournament organiser Brian Callaghan and Mrs Callaghan on arrival, the couple were shown round the Augustus Suite where Round 2 of the Masters was already at play by Tournament Director Stuart Conquest and the Masters Arbiter Stephen Boyd.
The Gibraltar Financial Services Commission (‘GFSC’) has recently hosted a number of workshops with EIF Directors. These followed on from the publication of the EIF Director Thematic Review papers, ‘Policy Statement’ and ‘Strategy & Expectations’, in October 2015. The aim of these workshops was to provide an opportunity to discuss, with EIF directors, the expectations set out in the papers and build a shared understanding of what this looks like in practice.
