His Excellency the Governor, Sir James Dutton, last week visited Gibraltar’s Army Cadet Unit at the Buffadero Training Camp.
His Excellency was welcomed by Lt Col Ivor Lopez (CO RG) and Capt Alan Montegriffo before being given a tour of various cadet activities, including radio communications, expedition planning, weapon handling and ‘Fire Orders.’
Commenting on the Government’s insistence that European Commission take action following their 6-month deadline for both Spain and Gibraltar to implement new Customs controls based on their commendations, UK Europe Minister David Lidington has praised the Gibraltar Government.

As a result of the recent European elections, there have been a number of changes to the MEPs for the South West region of which Gibraltar forms a part. The most shocking change is that Sir Graham Watson, long considered to be a strong supporter of Gibraltar, lost his seat. This was part of a wider tend that saw his party, the Lib Dems, suffer a crushing defeat only managing to retain one seat in the European Parliament.
