  • Government Disappointed at EU Parliament Delisting Vote

The Government says it notes, “with disappointment”, the European Parliament’s objection, today, to the entry into force of the European Commission’s decision to remove certain jurisdictions, including Gibraltar, from the EU’s list of ‘high-risk’ third-countries with strategic deficiencies as regards anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing (“AML/CFT”).

The Cuban

Napoleon believed that an army marches on its stomach, and now Revolutionaries, Gibraltar has a new, stomach-pleasing restaurant for you to plan your next coup d’état in!

The Cuban, a recently opened themed bar and restaurant, has burst onto the revolutionary cuisine scene, bringing a slice of Havana to Gibraltar. Since opening its doors on 3rd August 2012, The Cuban has quickly developed a reputation for exciting, delicious food, in a nicely themed setting and boasting excellent, friendly service.

If you are looking for something original, different and tasty, you need look no further. This restaurant offers a very full and varied selection of dishes enough to excite any palate. You will find yourself licking your fingers in delight as you munch your way through some exciting new nibbles like the Yuca Con Mojo (fried banana), the Papas Rellenas (potato croquettes with a twist) or the Mariquitinas (go see for yourself!). Don’t worry though, their range of starters, salads and snacks have some staple favourites too, for those less adventurous gourmands out there.

However, if it’s a good solid plate of food you’re after, The Cuban’s selection of meats, fish, burgers and platters should get your mouths watering. Providing diners with an impressive selection of marinated meats, slow cooked or grilled to perfection, this restaurant has something to please everyone. The Ropa Vieja (slow cooked shredded beef in tomato sauce) is a mean dish at a reasonable price, and the Veradero Ribs are juicy, smothered in a sticky sauce, and just fall off the bone.  But, if you’re struggling to choose, or if sharing is more your thing, the Platter Guevara provides you with a good selection of different dishes from the main menu to tantalise your taste buds.

There is also an extensive cocktail menu full of colourful and thirst-quenching mixes for those who like to knock back a little Mojito or two to cap off their dining experience. If you are particularly thirsty, why not try one of their fishbowl cocktails? Big enough to share, or a challenge just for one, if you dare!

Staff at The Cuban are very friendly and accommodating, epitomising the old dictum of “service with a smile”. The décor quickly transports you away to the hot and heavy streets of Havana, surrounded by Cadillacs, revolutionary posters and iconic images of Ché and Castro. The colourful setting gives this themed restaurant a vibrancy that sets it apart from others in Gibraltar, breathing some new and exciting life into local cuisine.

Open for lunch and throughout the evening, The Cuban is taking bold steps towards a culinary revolution here in Gibraltar; a revolution that El Ché would be proud of. So, if you fancy something a little bit different, fill your stomach, and your boots, with some Cuban cuisine and colourful cocktails and revolutionise your dining experience at The Cuban!
