The Government says it notes, “with disappointment”, the European Parliament’s objection, today, to the entry into force of the European Commission’s decision to remove certain jurisdictions, including Gibraltar, from the EU’s list of ‘high-risk’ third-countries with strategic deficiencies as regards anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing (“AML/CFT”).

The Landing’s – Fresh Fish In A Tranquil Setting

Queensway Quay Marina - Gibraltar - by Just Consulting LtdQueensway Quay has seen many restaurants come and go over the years – many are expensive, many are flashy but few last. One exception is The Landing’s – a luxury oasis of tranquility overlooking the marina.

The very professional staff will make you feel welcome the moment you arrive perhaps serving you with a pre-dinner cocktail carefully prepared in their bar. One look at the menu confirms that this is truly a unique establishment in Gibraltar. The dishes present original classics with a twist: their burger is no ordinary burger – it’s made with exclusive Kobe beef and is garnished with wasabi mayonnaise. Other standout dishes are the Supreme of Duck Breast and the West Indian Spicy Chicken Curry. But, to be perfectly honest, once you’ve tried what can be considered their signature dish – the Line Catch No 3 – you’ll be unlikely to choose anything else when you return. The Line Catch is the catch of the day (most times I’ve been it’s been a delicate Sea Bass) pan fried with Leek Grain Mustard Mash, Lemon and Fine Herb Beurre Blanc. The balance of these ingredients is perfectly achieved and one gets the sense that their chef really takes time over how to bring together different, sometimes exotic, flavours in one dish.

You might find that you spend a long time deliberating over the menu, such is the variety and the sheer appeal of many of the dishes. Again, the focus seems to be on adding a special twist to initially ordinary dishes – their seafood crepe, for example, which could so easily be served on its own, comes instead glazed with mornay sauce and a “hint of red chili spice.” Whatever you choose, it seems, has surprises in store for the discerning diner.

The wine list is decent and features vintages from Spain and the New World at surprisingly affordable prices.

The Landing’s is one of those places where the setting, the relaxed atmosphere and the dining experience as a whole encourage you to take your time over a meal. I once spent almost four hours there for lunch with a good friend and didn’t feel rushed or uncomfortable at all. Each time I have been since, I’ve found the same friendly service and superb food – well done for keeping it up!
