Sep 23 – Sir James Leaves Gibraltar On Monday – MacMillan To Act As Interim Governor

His Excellency the Governor Sir James Dutton will leave Gibraltar on Monday 28 September.

His Excellency and Lady Dutton will depart the Convent at 1030am and make their way along Main Street, past the Supreme Court and St Mary the Crowned to Parliament.

On arrival, His Excellency will be met by the Commissioner of Police and will inspect the RGP Guard of Honour. At the entrance to Parliament, they will be greeted by the Chief Minister where they will bid farewell to Members of Parliament.

The Governor and Lady Dutton will then cross the Piazza to City Hall, escorted by the Mayor. At this point there will be an opportunity for members of the public to wish the Governor and Lady Dutton farewell.

At City Hall, His Excellency and Lady Dutton will bid farewell to religious and community leaders.

His Excellency will arrive at HM Naval Base shortly before 1130 where he will receive the Keys from the Port Sergeant.

His Excellency and Lady Dutton will receive a Royal Salute and the Governor will inspect the Guard of Honour. Upon the completion of the inspection, His Excellency will return the Keys to the Port Sergeant. His Excellency and Lady Dutton will bid farewell to senior military and civilian dignitaries and to the Chief Minister and Mrs Picardo before boarding HMC Seeker.

As 1200 HMC Seeker will cast off as the Royal Gibraltar Regiment will fire a 17 gun salute to officially mark his departure and end of service.

Following the departure from Gibraltar of Sir James Dutton, Deputy Governor, Mrs Alison MacMillan, will be sworn in as interim Governor at a ceremony at the Convent.

Mrs MacMillan has been appointed by the Foreign Secretary, Philip Hammond, on the approval of HM The Queen and will formally assume the functions of Governor and Commander-in- Chief.
