Sep 28 - Government: Unemployment Levels Reach New Record-Busting Low Of 164

The Government has said it is extremely pleased to announce that the level of unemployed Gibraltarians has reached a new “record-busting low” of 164 as at 31 August 2015.

Number Six says this is the lowest unemployment figure since records began and even surpasses the previous lowest unemployment figure at the end of May this year, where the level of unemployed Gibraltarians reached 196.

The Government says that the successful modernisation of the administrative systems, including the introduction of the new software, ERASMUS 15, has streamlined procedures within the Department of Employment adding that these changes have improved time management, productivity and the overall quality of services provided. Critically, says the Government, Erasmus 15 empowers officials in their efforts to serve the public and help the unemployed seek employment opportunities.

Commenting on the above, the Minister for Business and Employment, Neil F. Costa, said: “Her Majesty’s Government of Gibraltar is entirely committed to increasing the employment opportunities of the community. In this respect, it is significant to note that the level of unemployment under this Government has decreased extensively and the last three quarters represent the lowest continuous recorded levels of unemployment. I have no doubt that my Ministry staff and our colleagues at the Department of Employment will continue in their efforts to reduce the level of unemployment even further. I also wish to take this opportunity to thank all of my staff for their diligence and effective performance.”
