Oct 05 - Telecinco Issues Rectification For Allegations Against Gibraltar

On 26th June 2015 Spanish media outlet Telecinco published an article on their website under the headline ‘Contrabando en la frontera de Gibraltar’ (Contraband at the Gibraltar frontier). That night a television report was aired on ‘El Programa de Ana Rosa’, which made false allegations about drug smuggling at the border between Gibraltar and Spain.

Charles Gomez and Co., acting for the Government of Gibraltar issued a request for rectification to the Director of Telecinco on the 2nd July 2015. Telecinco failed to meet their 3 day deadline to publish the rectification, instead publishing it a day late on 7th July 2015.

Number Six says the rectification confirmed that Telecinco’s allegations were unjustified. The Government says it considers the matter closed.
