Nov 06 - Government Says It Has Increased BCA Resources

The Government says it would like to set the record straight in respect of what it describes as the “unfair and unfounded allegation” that the GSD has made about the Borders and Coastguards Agency. This shows once again, says Number Six, that the GSD “are happy to jump onto every bandwagon without any knowledge of the facts.”

The Government adds that Unite the Union has already explained the positive discussions that have taken place in this regard.

A statement released yesterday evening explains: “The truth is that far from “running down” the Agency, as wrongly claimed by the GSD, the Government has actually increased the resources available to it! There were 69 officers employed by the BCA in 2011. There are now 96 officers employed. This represents an increase of 28% in staff resources in terms of BCA officers. In 2011 there were a total of four management/administrative staff at the BCA. There are now 9 management/administrative staff. This represents an increase of over 100%!

“The incoming GSLP/Liberal Government also provided over £350,000 for the refurbishment of the BCA HQ next to the air traffic control tower.

“The claims made by the GSD are therefore clearly not true. This is yet another case of them simply not knowing what they are talking about.”
