Nov 18 - GSD Holds "Constructive" Meeting With GTA

The GSD says the meeting held with the GTA was "constructive", and it is committed to many of the GTA's proposals for improvements within the education system.

A spokesman for the GSD said: "Should the GSD  win the election, the GSD and the GTA have agreed to enter into a Social Partnership in order to work together for the good of teachers and the education system in general.

"The GSD is committed to many of the GTA's proposals for improvements within the education system including a root and branch review. In that context, the GSD and the GTA have agreed to work together in relation to any ideas that a GSD Government may have in relation to Secondary Education and, in particular, a Secondary Education campus at the Rooke site.

"There are different models for a Secondary Education campus, which may involve one or two schools with a co-educational six form college, for example.  Bayside is not in the view of the GSD fit for purpose, and neither are Governors Meadow and Bishop Fitzgerald.  The GSD believes that its plans will ensure that children and teachers at these schools are provided with the facilities they deserve."

Leader of the Party, Daniel Feetham, said: "The GSD is committed to the principle of consultation with teachers and to the principle of consent. The Rooke site provides a once in a lifetime opportunity for education and we must all get it absolutely right. By working with the GTA and Teachers that is precisely what we will do."
